Arlene McDonald

Arlene E. McDonald, age 89, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at Park View Care Center in Sac City. Arlene E. Borchert was born on December 3, 1914, Coon Valley Township, Sac County, Iowa, the daughter of William and Ora (Reiman) Borchert. Arlene was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and a lifetime member. She grew to womanhood on a farm in rural Sac City and attended rural parochial and country school.

On August 30, 1940, Arlene was united in marriage to Fred L. McDonald at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. To this union two daughters were born: Mardelle and Jennifer. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She worked at a factory, and also was employed in private homes. Arlene liked to sew, work in her garden, and take care of her many flowers. Some of her favorite memories are of vacation trips taken with her family.

She was an active member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, president of Ladies Aid, Sunday school teacher for 8 years, and custodian for 20 years.

Survivors include her daughters: Mardelle Bliek, and Jennifer Rench and her husband Thomas all of Sioux City, IA; three grandchildren: Brandice Bliek of Sioux City and Tara and Channa Rench of Omaha, NE; brother-in-law Gerald Casey of Rockwell City, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ora Borchert; husband Fred McDonald, December 11, 1981; her sister and brother-in-law Ada and John Mohr; sister Carma Casey; and son-in-law Donald Bliek.

Funeral service for Arlene is Saturday, March 20th, 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church with Reverend H. W. Kramer officiating and Dee Meyer organist. The flower committee consists of Lee Schultz, Judy Mau, and Kathy Reynolds. Pallbearers include the following: Marlin Meyer, Harlan Meyer, Dana Dettmann, Ken Wise, Jr., Harlan Reynolds, and Tim Glasnapp. Burial will be at the St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.

Visitation is Friday, March 19th from 3:00-8:00 pm with family present from 6:00-8:00 at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City.
