Louise “Dot” McDonald

Graveside service for Louise “Dot” McDonald is Tuesday, November 18, 2003, at 10:15 a.m., at the Cory Grove Cemetery, Sac City. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m at the United Methodist Church, Sac City, with Reverend Dean McPherson officiating and Gary Witte assisting. There will be congregational singing, Dustin Bogue, soloist, and Lorna Youll, organist. Honorary pallbearers include: Jim Rowe, Jim Baker, John Gustafson. Casket bearers are the following: Blaine Presley, Brad Albers, Rafe Albers, Jim Clark, Kirk Plumb, and Mike Green.

Friends and family may call at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home, Sac City, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., Monday, November 17, 2003.

Louise “Dot” McDonald, age 95, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2003, at Park View Care Center in Sac City.

On April 20, 1908, Louise “Dot” Clarkson was born in Anita, Iowa, the daughter of John and Mearl (Benham) Clarkson. She attended Winterset schools through the tenth grade, and received her GED in Sac City as an adult.

Dot was united in marriage to Ray W. McDonald on April 17, 1925, in Winterset, at the Methodist parsonage. They were blessed with three daughters: Phyllis, Bonnie, and Linda.

Dot was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She worked outside the home as a telephone operator, dishwasher, cook, clerk, egg candler, and other numerous occupations, retiring in 1972. Her interests included: sewing, crossword puzzles, attending horse races, or reading a good book. She enjoyed spending time with family especially her grandchildren or visiting with friends. She had a delightful sense of humor and a sense of adventure. Everyone will remember her pretty smile and happy spirit. For the past ten years, Dot has resided at Park View Care Center and enjoyed activities, staff, and residents.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Sac City, the UMW, and the Rebekah Lodge.

Survivors include her two daughters: Phyllis (Gary) Witte, and Linda (Scott) Russell all of Sac City; her 11 grandchildren: Cindy (Jim) Clark, Michelle Daly and her fiancée Ed Quail, Kellie (Kirk) Plumb, Sherry (Mike) Green, Valerie Presley, Lori (Jim) Rowe, Blaine (Connie) Presley, Colette (Jim) Baker, Bradley (Katie) Albers, Leslie (John) Gustafson, Rafe (Rebecca) Albers; 30 great-grandchildren; and 5 (almost 6) great-great-grandchildren. Dot is also survived by her brother, Harold Clarkson of Winterset, IA; half-brother, Phil Clarkson of Waterloo, IA; and half-sisters, Darlene Eklov of Des Moines, IA, and Irene Carver of Estero, FL; and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ray on March 13, 1988; daughter, Bonnie Presley; great-grandson, Adam Bogue; a sister, Nayda Johnson; brothers: Jack Clarkson and Bob Clarkson; and half-sister, Barbara Scholl.
