Della Irene Buse
Della Irene Buse, age 79, of Lake View, IA, passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2003, at Black Hawk Life Care Center in Lake View, IA.
Della Irene Smidt was born on April 15, 1924, near Glenville, NE, the daughter of Fred W. and Minnie (Krenzien) Smidt. She was baptized on May 26, 1925, at the Presbyterian Church, Breda, IA. She lived on a farm near Pauline, NE, until about age 7 then on a farm west of Ulmer, IA. She attended school in a one room school house near Pauline for three years and then Sac Township Rural School.
Luverne Buse and Della were united in marriage on January 27, 1953, at Peace Lutheran Church in Ulmer where she was confirmed in February of 1953. They had three children: Melvin, Ron, and Diane. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Auburn and a Sunday School teacher for many years. and a member of the alter committee.
Della was a housewife, mother, grandmother, and especially a farming "partner", working with Luverne on the farm until retiring August 31, 1991. Della liked to stay busy and could be found reading, sewing, quilting, gardening, talking politics, writing letters to family and friends, volunteering at the school, and helping others. Special memories of Della quilting with her sisters and having tea and cookies in the afternoon will be remembered by her family. She enjoyed hearing about her grandchildren and following their activities. A highlight in her life was going to a concert to see Frank Sinatra.
She is survived by her husband Luverne Buse; sons: Melvin (Judy) Buse of Auburn, IA, Ron (Joan) Buse of Lake City, IA; daughter: Donna (Tim) Baldrige of Ames, IA; 12 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; 3 brothers: Carl Smidt, Irvin (Wilma) Smidt and Harvey (Annabel) Smidt all of Lake View; 3 sisters: Matilda Beckman of Lake View, Cara Freese of Sand Springs, OK, and Lavon Karstens of Lake View.
Preceded in death by her parents; and a sister Velma Ulven.
