Bonnie Wilkins
Bonnie was born September 1, 1933, in Rockwell City, IA, the daughter of Bill and Nell (Meusburger) Griffith. She grew up in Rockwell City, graduating from Rockwell City High School in 1951. She was baptized in 1942 at the Church of Christ in Rockwell City. In October of 1955, Bonnie was united in marriage to Lowell Shadle. He passed away in 1960. Bonnie married Charles “Rusty” Wilkins on June 10, 1962, at the Methodist Church in Carroll, IA. She was blessed with five children: Dennis, Mark, Chris, Lori, and Melissa. Rusty passed away February 10, 1985. Prior to her marriage Bonnie worked at a bank in Rockwell City, later she worked at the family business (Wilkins NAPA Auto Parts) in Carroll. From 1987-1994 Bonnie was a House Mom at Kappa Alpha Theta at Iowa State University. Bonnie was a member of the Lakes United Methodist Church of Lake View. She also belonged to the Garden Club, Fine Arts Club, and Bridge Clubs in Lake View. She enjoyed being and visiting with friends and family at the lake home in Lake View, playing cards, gardening, reading, and photography. Bonnie traveled throughout the United States, Mexico, Canada, and went on several trips to Europe. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was loved and will be missed by many. Survivors include her children: Dennis (Janet) Wilkins of Denver, CO, Mark (Julie) Wilkins of Lake City, IA, Chris (Mary) Wilkins of Waukee, IA, Lori Kroneberger of Minneapolis, MN, and Melissa (John) Hinners of Denver, CO; her mother Nell Griffith of Rockwell City, IA; 14 grandchildren: Mindy, Tyson, Lindsey, Dillon, Chelsea, Nick, Bailey, Janey, Jay, Evan, Tanner, Luke, Brett, and Matthew; a brother Jack (Sherry) Griffith of Little Rock, AR; a sister Cora Faye (Keith) Dagit of Cresco, IA; extended family; and many friends. Bonnie was preceded in death by her father Bill Griffith; husband Lowell Shadle; husband Charles “Rusty” Wilkins; and a sister Janet Frakes. Funeral service for Bonnie will be held Saturday, December 20, 2003, at 11:00 a.m., at Lakes United Methodist Church in Lake View, Iowa, with Reverend Rick Johnson officiating. Lindsey Kroneberger will read the Eulogy. Special music will be provided by Michelle Caltrider, soloist, and Ellen Severin, organist. Graveside service is at 1:30 p.m. at the Carroll Cemetery, Carroll, Iowa. Pallbearers include: Tyson Wilkins, Dillon Wilkins, Nicholas Wilkins, Scott Dagit, John Hinners, and Gene Julius. Visitation is from 4:00-8:00 Thursday at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Lake View. |
