Irene Miller, age 91, of Odebolt, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, IA. Irene Katherine (Dinges) Miller was born March 18, 1918, as the oldest child of Alfred and Helena (Detterman) Dinges, in rural Sac County on what is now known as the Pete Renze Farm. She attended rural schools through the 8th grade and then went to work on the family farm.

She met and fell in love with Leo C. Miller and they were married in 1935. To this union four children were born; John, LaDonna, Robert, and James. They farmed northwest of Odebolt until they moved to town in 1946. Irene held numerous jobs over the years including working at the local bakery, the variety store, and house cleaning/helping out at the Chronicle. She was a life long member of St. Martin’s Catholic Church.

Irene loved to crochet and made countless afghans for her family and friends. She enjoyed her flower garden and fishing with Leo. She entered Morningside Care Center after suffering a fall and breaking her hip on her birthday, March 18, 2006. She will be dearly missed by all those that knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons: John (Judith) Miller, Pocatello, ID, and James (Clara) Miller, Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren: Steve Miller, Paul Costley, David Miller, Lesley (Robert) Hanson, Staci (Mike) Bartling, Jeremy (Sarah) Miller, Jamie (Will) Donaldson, Jacob Miller; ten great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law LaDonna Miller of Odebolt, IA; sisters: Leone Rife, Mesa, AZ, Marjory (Wilbur) Hauschildt, Ida Grove, IA, Myrtle (Francis) Engelking, Riverside, CA; Leo’s sisters and brothers, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Preceded in death by her husband Leo in June of 1999; her parents Alfred and Helena; their daughter LaDonna; a son Robert; and a sister Bernadine Cranston.
