Max Don Orth, age 65, of Sac City, IA, passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2011, at Loring Hospital in Sac City following a lengthy illness.

Max was born on August 8, 1946, to Clemens and Frances (Larsson) Orth in Storm Lake, IA. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City and graduated from Lytton Consolidated High School with the class of 1964.

On February 14, 1989, Max was united in marriage to Jean Bauer. They made their home in Sac City. He worked in construction as a general laborer and at Farmland in Denison as a meatpacker before retiring in 2003. Max loved the outdoors, collecting guns and working on old cars. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother and will be missed by many.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Ann of Sac City; mother-in-law, Adha Bauer of Spirit Lake; his son, Dan Orth, wife Kristin, children Drew, Colin and Megan of Urbandale; his daughter, Mindy Brown, husband Darnell, children Kylie and D.J. of Eagan, MN; his daughter, Jennifer Orth of Mounds View, MN; his daughter, Katie Orth of Urbandale; his daughter, Melissa Orth of Phoenix, AZ; daughter-in-law, Casey Orth, children Abrielle and Max of Storm Lake; step-son, Jeff Ross, wife Melanie, children Shelby and Andrea of Lake View; step-daughter, Debbie Ross and daughter Vanessa of Sac City; step-son, Scott Ross, wife Stephanie, children Marissa and Sydney of Kingsley. Other survivors include his brother, Marvin Orth and wife Donna of Ames; six brothers-in-law; six sisters-in-law; and extended family members.

Max was preceded in death by his parents; brother Craig Orth; son Jason Orth; brother-in-law Ed Hutchinson; step grandson Tyler Ross.
