Ed Drilling, age 84, of Lake View, IA, passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2011, at Black Hawk Life Care Center in Lake View.

Edward Francis Drilling, Jr., was born on February 2, 1927, in Lake View to Edward F. and Blanche (Dougherty) Drilling. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wall Lake. Ed graduated from Lake View High School in 1945 and two years from Kansas City School of Watchmaking. He served his country during WWII in the United States Army.

On December 29, 1948, Ed was united in marriage to Louise Bell in Kansas City, MO. This union was blessed with two sons. Ed pursued his life’s work as a jeweler and watchmaker, retiring February 1, 1989. He loved to travel in his RV and visit with his family and friends. Ed lived his whole life in Lake View where he volunteered for many different organizations. He will be missed by many.

Those remaining to mourn his loss include the love of his life, Louise Drilling; his sons: Edward F. Drilling, III and wife Amanda of Des Moines, and Lloyd Drilling and wife Linda of Minneapolis; four grandchildren: Joseph Drilling of Minneapolis, Jack Drilling of Minneapolis, Jamie Drilling of Des Moines, and Lauren Freeman and husband Chris of Des Moines; two great-grandchildren: Rose and Cecilia Freeman; extended family members and many friends.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Blanche Drilling; his sister and her husband Barbara and Gil Renze; and brother Donald Drilling and wife Virginia.
